Rice and Red Beans

1 large onion diced
5 garlic cloves minced
1/2 cup diced ham
1 Portuguese chourico diced
1 can goya small red beans (not drained)
2 Tbsp red sofrito
6 chicken bouillon cubes
2 Tbsp Mrs.Dash garlic and onion blend
1 packet Goya sazon con culantro and achiote
Salt and pepper to taste
1 teaspoon tumeric
1 teaspoon dried basil
2 cups rice (I use basmati)
5 cups water
3 Tbsp oil

*Dice onion, ham and mince garlic
*Next you will need to separate pots. 1 large sauce pan and another 4 qt pot to make all ingredients in.
* In smaller sauce pan add 5 cups water, 6 boullion cubes along with the mrs.dash and bring to a boil
*In larger pot add and heat oil and saute onions, garlic, chourico and ham until onions are translucent. Add salt and pepper to your liking.
*Add in sofrito and stir on high heat until mixed together.
*Add 2 cups of rice unwashed to this mixture. The goal is to lightly toast the rice which helps the rice to be soft afterwards.
*Add tumeric, basil, sazon, beans and all of the chicken stock and bring it to a boil.
*When boiling turn heat down to medium, cover it and let cook about 20-30 minutes stirring once or twice in between.
* All set enjoy.
